Grab your favorite tools and sign up for Christina Orthwein’s Design, Carve, Construct workshop. In this workshop you will design, transfer and carve a custom plaster press mold and then build a 6 sided curved slab mug from that mold. Additionally you will get to make a custom silicone tool to take home with you. Christina Orthwein teaches Photography and Ceramics at Bryn Athyn College in Pennsylvania and has presented at ceramics conferences throughout the United States including at NCECA. Registration is open for our 7th Annual PopUp Market. It will be held at the Scout House in the Heights on May 3rd. This is a great opportunity for you to exhibit and sell your functional pottery, sculptures, and other ceramic artworks directly to the Houston community. It’s also a great time for some Spring cleaning and just in time for Mother’s Day. Register here soon before all booths are taken!
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston will host a Guided Tour exclusively for ClayHouston members on April 26th for the exhibition of Toshiko Takaezu: Worlds Within. This guided tour is a great opportunity to experience this wonderful exhibition and will be led by Elizabeth Essner, Windgate Foundation Associate Curator of Craft. Another special offer for ClayHouston Members: on April 19th HTXClay is hosting a one day workshop and lecture with Eliza Au. In this workshop, Pattern & Ornamentation, Eliza will be demonstrating how to make a mold and use it to press and build with these unique lattice slabs. Participants will be able to experience building with these lattice slabs to create simple forms. Registration is made through HTXClay but ClayHouston members will receive a very special discount.

Visual Arts Alliance (VAA) is hosting a special Double Exhibition Tour at the Menil Collection, guided by Arielle Masson, on Wednesday, April 17 at 5:55 p.m. The tour will offer in-depth insights into two powerful and timely exhibitions currently on view at the Menil: Joe Overstreet: Taking Flight and Tacita Dean: Blind Folly. Project Row Houses’ (PRH) Floyd Newsum Summer Studios Mentorship + Residency Program is accepting applications for ten undergraduate students for an exclusive opportunity to learn and grow their creative practice in the historic neighborhood of Houston’s Third Ward.
